About me

Sarah Trotter:

I came to Body Control Pilates over 20 years ago, following a recommendation for a way to try and tackle my ongoing lower back pain. Pilates classes weren’t that easy to come by back then, but having found a local class, I decided to try and give this a proper chance and was amazed to find how much of a difference it made: not just to my physical, but also my mental well being.

It wasn’t long before I was hooked and I have never looked back. So when I was then looking for a way to somehow share the great benefits of Body Control Pilates, my teacher - with whom I had done my personal practice for over 9 years - suggested that I train to teach Pilates matwork classes. I qualified with the well established and renowned Body Control Pilates Association, and am now able to offer a variety of matwork classes, suitable for all ages and all abilities. I am involved in Continuous Professional Development training on an ongoing basis, and have further training in, for example, Pilates for Bone Health, Pilates with Small equipment, Mental health and Pilates.

See the CLASSES page for more details.

“I wouldn’t be without Pilates with Sarah.  The change I have experienced with general core strength, flexibility, balance and general well-being is huge.  Having been with Sarah a number of years prior to Covid for ‘in person’ classes, I thought they may be not quite as good via Zoom but that is not the case.  Sarah’s verbal instruction is clear, precise and professional – always with a smile and twinkle.  She watches you like a hawk to make sure the movements are being executed correctly and offers alternative exercises so including all levels of capability within the class.  Being inclusive, kind and gentle but to the point she creates a fun class with everyone getting to know one another.  She really cares and it comes through in her instruction and relationship with her clients.” Claire

What is Pilates?

Pilates for Life teaches you the Body Control matwork series of exercises. These originate from the series of exercises devised by Joseph Pilates. Body Control Pilates has evolved from that original system to bring us the current series of Body Control Pilates exercises.

I believe that one of the most important elements of Pilates is about keeping you moving. Regular Pilates practice will improve your posture, mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and also - especially important in these times of changing and sometimes unknown challenges - relaxation and mental well being. It should allow you to get, and stay, active in your day to day life. It also encourages you to develop better body awareness.

The Body Control Pilates approach teaches you through safe and functional exercises that will help you to develop, or restore your body balance and establish the optimum way of moving: it may be that you are recovering from an injury, or have got into physical movement patterns that have lead to postural imbalance and the resulting pain. Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and GP’s recommend Pilates as one of the safest and most effective forms of exercise.

Body Control Pilates helps you to combine strength with mobility. A better way of living.
